Hellyer Mine, Tasmania

A CGC Dredging project in which tailings is being reclaimed by dredging and retreated by the Hellyer Mill, joint venture parties to produce zinc and lead concentrate. The requirement was for operating 24 hrs per day, 7 days a week for at least 4 years and beyond whilst zinc prices remained favourable. Production target was 1,500,000 tonnes per annum from depths to 18 metres.

The dredge was converted to electric drives with a 700 metre long trailing cable.

The project involved working in mountainous areas in thich extremes of weather exist.

When fully commissioned it was handed over to the client as a turn key. The project has since operated very successfully.
